The book collects the results of the call for papers and photos ‘Rileggere Samonà’ (‘Re-reading Samonà’), sponsored by the Dipartimento di Architettura of the Università degli Studi Roma Tre and Università Iuav di Venezia, thereby continuing the cycle of events organized together with the Iuav Archivio Progetti – two exhibitions and a day of presentations held at the headquarters of the Rectorate in Tolentini in the spring of 2018 in Venice – dedicated to Giuseppe Samonà (1898-1983), one of the most famous and influential Italian architects of the twentieth century. Samonà was a designer, theorist and teacher, he was director and re-founder of the Università Iuav di Venezia from 1945 to 1972 and a senator of the Republic from 1972 to 1976.
The call followed in the wake of these in-depth studies and proposes to broaden the scientific debate in re-reading of Giuseppe Samonà and his studio shared with his son Alberto, by gathering original contributions of theoretical or historical-critical character, readings of projects, and photographic documentation of the works.
The material submitted was selected through a peer review and the results are published in the editorial series Patrimonio culturale e territorio of the the Dipartimento di Architettura published by Rome TrE-Press edited by Laura Pujia.
