Abstract
This book takes its origin from a Seminar organized at the University Roma Tre and focused on the tragic events occurred in the last century when the nazi-fascist forces acquired more and more, with a feeble resistance (if not indifference) by democratic States, the rush to organize and to carry out the persecutory, racist and genocidal policy first in Germany and then in the European Countries under their control. The failure of the Evian Conference, the later Conference of Monaco allowing the transfer of the Sudetenland to Germany, the Kristallnacht, the occupation of the all Czechoslovakia, the Case of the refugees of the transatlantic Saint Louis are some of the sad events characterizing that period and paving the road of nazi-forces to rid the Europe under their control of Jewish, gipsy, homosexual, disabled, political dissident persons through crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide. Starting from these events, the book extends its focus to others cases of ethnic cleansing preceding the Shoah (such as Armenian case of 1915-1916), the more recent ones (such as the 1990’s ethnic cleansings in Bosnia-Herzegovina) and the undergoing cases too (such as the Rohingyas’ ethnic cleansing).
The means to prevent and oppose the repetition of similar events is, first of all, not to forget, is not to repeat the approach of indifference which accompanied them: it is necessary to know and to remember so to prevent. This is the goal of the Authors of the contributions contained in this volume: they are academics convinced of the role of the transmission of knowledge with a simple and easy language so to reach the new generations of students in schools and universities.
