Abstract

Ian Wood is undoubtedly one of the main protagonists of the intense historiographical season that, in last decades, profoundly innovated the traditional reading of the crucial historical phase in which the Greco-Roman ancient world antiquity transformed itself into something different and new: something that – in many respects – determines our feeling of being ‘western’ still today. The present volume re-propouses a series of themes that never cease to fascinate the modern reader and, in particular, gives a new lecture of the role played by Christianity in determining the transformation of the Roman West based on a ‘quantitative’ investigation. This book invites legal historian to face himself with the emergence of an original design of society and with the introduction of new contents in the system of a tradition already solid but in need of being revitalized and rethought. The reading of this book offers however suggestions and points of reflection also to the jurist tout-court
