This volume is the result of a study and enhancement program for the Aurelian Walls complex, promoted by Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and the three Roman Universities Sapienza, Tor Vergata and Roma Tre.

This collaboration is ongoing on different fronts, including the organisation of at least three conferences on the Aurelian Walls, which aim is focusing the acquired knowledges and research topics still open and supervising along time and different places the health-state of the complex palimpsest of the walls.

The first Conference, of which we publish the Acts today, was held on the 25th of March  2015 at the Department of Architecture of Roma Tre at the Ex-Mattatoio in Testaccio.

As the title suggests, The Aurelian Walls in the History of Rome. 1. From Aureliano to Honorio is particularly focused on the Aureliano project and addresses the topics related to the history of the first phase of the walls up to the 5th century AD.

The subject is examined not only from a technical point of view, analysing ancient layering and original constructive typologies, but, trough the elements that influenced the defensive path, also an historical and urban perspective is given.

In the second part of the Day and in the numerous posters included in the Acts, the results of recent investigations and restoration work carried out by Sovrintendenza have been presented along with researches, surveys and projects promoted by the three universities involved.
