Abstract

The small volume collects two lectures held by Professor Marta Cartabia at Roma Tre University. The first contribution, that gave origin to its title, is the reproduction of the lectio magistralis given by the author at the Opening of the 2019-2020 Academic Year Ceremony. An ideal path for a renewed idea of justice that develops from the reading of the Eumenides. The acquittal of Orestes, also a self-confessed offender, well represents the idea of justice aimed at the reconciliation, restoration and reconstruction of the social bond. A Justice that looks forward, without canceling its past, always recognizing the possibility of a rebirth. The second contribution is dedicated to the word Respect and was proposed by the Author in the form of a lecture to high school students as part of the project ‘The Constitution… open to everyone’. The key to understanding is given by the illustration of a short story by Pirandello, which leads to a clear interpretation of the intimate link between the principle of observance of the rules and the respect for the person, cornerstones of social, orderly coexistence and respectful of human dignity.
