Abstract

The book carries out an investigation on the history of childhood between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, declined both as a history of pedagogical ideas on childhood and as a history of the educational experiences of real girls and boys through the analysis of life stories. The analysis cover the educational models and the pedagogical practices in daily life, through the  articulated and composite bundle of educational institutions (family, colleges, schools, associations, factories) and cultural processes produced and conveyed by the emerging mass media (from literary production for children to the most recent mass media of the twentieth century) that have characterized the daily life of boys and girls and contributed to the processes of formation and identity construction of individuals and groups.
