Language is constantly evolving and adapting to ever-changing realities and circumstances, such as the current pandemic. In fact, this happens more rapidly and more prominently in moments of historical and social crisis. From its very beginnings, the health emergency caused by the Covid-19 had a big impact on mass communication. This unpredictable situation not only engendered a bunch of neologisms, but was also at the origin of a process of resemantization of pre-existing words and expressions, as witnessed by the debate in linguistic and sociological scientific communities. This awareness was the starting point for the thoughts that animated our virtual conference Words which did not exist. Language and languages in the context of the pandemic (18-19 March 2021), which took place about one year after the outbreak of the pandemic.
