Abstract
Aim of the volume is to investigate the central role of photography in the scopic regimes of modernity, overcoming discourses on medium specificity in order to account for the deeply interdisciplinary character of visuality. We tried to conciliate theoretical reflections with more cultural-historical approaches, focalizing our specific attention on Italy and the situation of the debate in the field in this country. Our goal has also been to articulate a reflection on the role played by visual cultures in the constitution of national identity, both on an individual and a collective level.
