Abstract

The objective of the volume is to highlight the profile- coherent with that of much democratic intellectuality of the Italian post-WWII period- of a historian of education, Mario Alighiero Manacorda (1916-2016), constantly committed to including the themes of school and education in the country’s ‘democratic renaissance’ that developed from the post war period to very recent times. The volume gathers a number of contributions by different scholars with the aim of highlighting every aspect of his cultural and political work. The appendix of original works, provided in the volume, is inspired by the documents donated to MuSED, partly already catalogued and partly in the process, as in the case of his private correspondence, and it will have the task of revealing “live” the figure of a scholar of great rigor, who has been able to combine his research activity with a constant civil and political commitment.
